Pupil Premium

At Ghyllgrove Community Infants School the targeted and strategic use of pupil premium will support us in achieving our vision:

‘Empowering all children to reach their full potential’


  • We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils.

  • We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.

  • In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.

  • We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged. At least 70% of any group will be made up of FSM children.

  • All our work through the pupil premium will be aimed at accelerating progress moving children to at least age related expectations. Initially this will be in communication, English and Maths.


  • Pupil Premium will be clearly identifiable within the budget

  • The Head teacher in consultation with the governors and staff, will decide how the Pupil Premium is spent for the benefit of entitled pupils

  • The school will assess the additional provisionfor the entitled pupils. 

  • The school will be accountable for how it has used the additional funding to support the achievement of those pupils covered by the Pupil Premium and the Head teacher will report to the governing body and parents on how effective the intervention has been in achieving its aims.

  • From September 2012, we will publish online information about how we have used the Premium.

  • We will ensure that staff and governors are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium.

  • We will seek to further develop strategies and interventions which can improve the progress and attainment of entitled pupils.

  • We will track the impact of the strategiesto ensure that we can show the value that has been added to the education of the entitled children.

  • We will monitor evaluate and review the success of the impact of the pupil premium funding. 


 It will be the responsibility of the Head teacher to produce regular reports for the Governors

  • the progress made towards narrowing the gap, by year group, for socially disadvantaged pupils

  • an outline of the provision that was made since the last report

  • an evaluation of the cost effectiveness, in terms of the progress made by the pupils receiving a particular provision, when compared with other forms of support.

The Governors of the school will ensure that there is an annual statement to parents on how the Pupil Premium funding has been used to address the issue of ‘narrowing the gap’ for socially disadvantaged pupils. This task will be carried out within the requirements published by the Department for Education.
